Prospective website owners need to know that there are two costs to owning a website.   Firstly the cost of registering the name with the registrar, and secondly the cost to the internet service provider for putting your site on their servers so that internet visitors can access it.   So this means that companies can gain profit twice;

firstly they can decide their own mark-up for the registration fees these, strangely, are not set, and service providers give only a small proportion of the registration fee to the registrar.

Secondly they charge you, usually monthly, for allowing you to put your website on their servers so that others can see it.   This is called "hosting".
